Every once in a while, I always hope, I get to taste something I've never tried before. Now when you think about it, that's not too hard for most of us to accomplish in a world of food as large as ours... But it was a new flavor to me! My close friend Camille is an expert in things middle eastern, especially food. This weekend she introduced me to the flavor of mint in scrambled eggs... refreshing! The recipe calls for fresh mint, parsley, yellow peppers, and onions which are all chopped fresh and tossed into your scramble at the last moment. Add cheese if you like.

Tonight's Dinner: Black bean and pepper spaghetti rigati. It's another hardy bean pasta in honor of cold weather. This one has a pan based sauce of black beans, sweet orange peppers, fresh tomatoes, sliced garlic, and, optionally, bacon or pancetta if you feel carnivorous. Add parmegiano cheese for a decadent finish.

When faced with an enterprise wide client facing, POS, and operational workflow computer system upgrade, KINKO's Headquarters in Dallas had to determine quickly how it would train the employees in 1100 retail stores how to use their new system, ORDER TO PAY. With hundreds of discreet ordering tasks and options in the design of the system, how could employees learn, and retain what they learn, without a hiccup in the operational flow? There is no way the entire company can go off the production line to train. So what can be done?

I was hired by a third party contractor to come in and design a BLENDED LEARNING STRATEGY based on the business needs of KINKO'S as well as the learning needs of this highly social work-team environment. By breaking down individual learning style options as well as Multiple Intelligence Theory, I designed multiple modalities for people to access training; with the emphasis on team.

Initially, I introduced how this would culturally impact how the teams worked together. By introducing basic concepts of change into the teams, we could show how they could build upon what they already know, and begin to take ownership of the change in how they worked together. Empowerment and role "norming" was helpful for the team members. They could begin to understand how to anticipate needs. By seeing videos early, before the go-live, and walking through the GUI, look and feel, begin to learn new terminology, even as a prototype. Additional modules and access to learning through multimedia was introduced as a staged rollout in the strategy design. The result was a combination of opportunities for self directed learning as well as led or team based communities.

The overall strategy document was the basis of a seminar for which I created an abstract and was chosen to be lead presenter. "Authentic Learning in Blended Scenarios: Your Map Folded My Way." When you look at a large map, you have an impulse to fold it down to a meaningful area to study and focus upon. This was the idea behind the learning solution for KINKO'S. Integrated workplace Learning is possible, challenging, but possible. Through Peer mentoring, adaptability increases, and the reinforcement to learn quickly is well supported. The highly adaptable KINKO'S teams succeeded in making ORDER TO PAY the success it still is today.

Cinema is the greatest form of documentation of our cultures, history, and personal experiences as human beings. As we are now running to catch with our selves in technological advances, we are also falling behind in preserving that which has come before us on 35mm film. There is great satisfacting in locating a copyright holder who has lost a film, had it stolen during distribution, or misplaced in the lab, being able to reconnect the orphan film with its rightful owner. An even greater pleasure is restoring and preserving all of the elements, and then screening it for the first time in decades to a new audience.This is a wonderful way to honor the work of artists who cannot speak for themselves anymore and to help tell their stories. We are currently in talks with a cable network and a preservation fund to embark on our next project.

As the story goes, I sang before I ever spoke, and I thumped to the rhythm of concert music I heard my father took my mother to hear before I was born. By age three, I had perfect pitch and would sing harmony and play the piano by ear. As a musician, specifically a singer, I perceive the inner narrative in any given situation and use this perspective to write narrative in film scores and screenplays. Through my work as filmmaker and sound designer, I look to reach the audience through the subtext of their own imaginations, or "theaters of the mind". The tools I use to accomplish this are recordings of animal sounds, natural sounds, and Foley sound effects props. Elements from an ordinary world used in an extraordinary way. To build this approach to sound design further, my film scores include layers from rare and ethnic instruments that bring a mysterious ancient voice to the music. To pull it all together, I combine lines of human voices as textures and leads on original songs. This overall effect helps to give the audience the freedom to experience their own sensorial adventure, and to add dimension to the film.

My toolkit, apart from unusual instruments such as Hurdy Gurdys, Autoharps and Syrian Lyres, involves the exquisite sample libraries from EastWest Sound, Frank Sinatra's recording studio on Sunset in Hollywood. Learning to make the most of these libraries is challenging due to their size and richness. I am ALWAYS open to dialogue and conversation about the workflow in the Pro-Tools DAW and how best to produce and mix these tracks.

Short term goal - I am working towards strengthening my Home studio production potential while refreshing my live orchestra conducting and recording. Whoo hoo!!! I am thrilled to report that my Belgian Tervuren "Rummy" is now AKC Tracking Certified. She earned her certification in Cortland NY on October 24, 2015, under Judge Debbie Maheu. A big thank you to the Finger Lakes Kennel Club for putting on a great event. It was a coooooold morning with a strong, icy wind, but the fields were lush and it was a beautiful setting. Five out of the seven entries passed. The Certification Test is identical to the Tracking Dog or TD test, and proves that the dog is ready for the TD. With certification, you get 4 certificates good for one year. Now I can enter Tracking Dog tests, Each time I enter a TD test, I must send a certificate in with the entry. If Rummy does not pass the Tracking Dog test in four attempts, she will then need to re-certify. She only has to pass it once for her full title. So, basically this means we are halfway there :-)). Very proud of my girl. Note to self - next time wear boots with better traction, we were flying downhill for the last leg, I was literally running to keep up so as not to fall on my face. So exciting when she found the glove!!!

In the new National Owner Handled Series (NOHS), no professional handlers are allowed to show. The dogs must be owned by their handlers. Speaking as an owner-handler myself, I think this is super duper!

2013 Football Season is about to begin at East Boca Tackle. Our registration numbers have surpassed last years and we have a crop of talent from other leagues joining our program.

The first week of condition was conducted by the guys from Athletes Edge. They train some of the most famous sports athletes today and provided the kids a great start to the season.

Week two is all about the coaches and their ability to assess the players. Draft night is Saturday and each team has six frozen players. Each player receives a skill number and entered into the draft for their perspective division. (Fr/JV/Varsity)

I am looking forward to this season, we have a strong team with big kids. Like last year, I expect our defense to be number one ranked but unlike last year, I expect our offense to score touchdowns often and a lot.

Our QB has two years experience and has improved his arm strength and accuracy while picking up a little size and height. His ability to move in the pocket will be our opportunity to stretch the defense and make it easier to run the ball. We have 2 backs weighing in at 105 and our TE is 119. Power running plus a good dosage of quick passes will get us to the championship game.

They say 9 yr olds can't pass effectively and we're out to prove it wrong.

We started off strong with inside running. We chewed up the 1st quarter and were on the 6 yard line with 1 and Goal. QB sneak was the call and the Cardinals score.

Defense held strong for the first possession until at 4th and 15 and they throw a bomb to tie the score.

We drive on our second possession with more strong running. Then all of the sudden with team running out West Boca strips the ball and scores a 60 yard touchdown.

By half time we had 10 players and we continued to play until the 4th quarter when our 3 third player went down and we had to forfeit the game.

Tough lost but many positives came out of the game. Our kids showed grit, determination and heart. They were out manned and fought till the end.

One more game to secure second seeding and then its' playoff time. Hopefully we can get enough players to practice.
